Love and Lives Matter

Listening to Bob whilst walking in the afternoon sun
Thinking back to earlier times when real life had just begun
Staring at the horizon, looking out to sea
Searching for the lines and directions which will shape our destiny

No thoughts of colours, people sharing the world
Only differential being whether you’re a boy or a girl
More than sharing a shelter or jamming in a club
Or trying an occasional leaf whilst singing along with Bob

Lives really mattered and love was all around
People wearing all types of clothes creating their own sound
Trips to outside festivals seen Queen in London’s Hyde Park
Thousands and thousands of fans not caring if they were light or dark

Lived through cities changing, modernisation all around
Older buildings demolished and now concrete jungles abound
Created different tribes with new rulers controlling lives
Turning into modern ghettos with too many turning to knives

Travelling to lots of new places, different cultures in place
Helped educate my brain around the vastness of the human race
Walked around lots of areas, in my view safe to do
Later heard from other people it was a very foolish thing to do

Had many a drink in pubs where I was in the minority
But wanted to listen to some reggae music so joined in with the majority
Some strange looks at first with consequences bordering on disaster
But the most important point at the end of the day, through music, love and lives matter
