We assembled at the same venue we met in last year
All looking forward to tasting that first beer
As I walked through the door Shug held out a welcoming hand
A pint of John Smiths I said, that would be grand

Fewer in numbers at the start of the day
Some of the team not allowed out to play
Missing perma tanned Straight from the land buying crew
Until the brilliant white teeth of bronze Gazza came into view

Sugar plum had some strange sort of Celtic Connection
While Sssspppaaaccce supervised his Arran house renovation
Spud had a different reason and we all agreed
To send our thoughts for Steph – a wish for good health indeed

In one of the corners sat our own Rod the Mod
Our first ever seventies attendee – thought of as a god
The talking had started stories regaled
Handbooks distributed facts and figures entailed

A little while later the food had been tried
Around this time the young team and Sweep arrived
With the only thing in common a part of EDFC
They went to their respective corners – the young ones on the setee

A blonde haired beauty then walked into the room
Took a seat by the Bard – you could hear the boys swoon
Only came in for a drink to celebrate her twenty ninth
After Scoop and Shugs ramblings, in counselling until her thirtieth

A bit later moving into the centre of the bar
Still relating stories of the journey so far
The young team in an alcove with designs of their own
The legends in the other thinking is it time to go home

A strange sort of atmosphere descended this night
Not only from those legends still talking……… rubbish
Two aged team members continentalised drinking coffees
Wonder if next year they’ll be handing out toffees

And like all great days it came to an end
Thankfully with our affluence not all money was spent
It’s just a bit of magic being part of this team
