Ode To A Reunion – the 40th

Well, it came to pass and was there for all to see
The 40th anniversary of EDFC
Covering mid 70′s styles and youthful ambitions
To 21st century technology and retirement options

So 40 years had brought some changes to this group
Nevertheless despite his advancing years, the same old scoop
Organisational abilities were never in doubt
Able to make judgement calls on whether 1, 2 or 3′s a crowd

Many people over the years have come and gone
Some on a temporary basis, others remembered in song
Several have attained legend status for many different reasons
One man stood head and shoulders above us all, the legend that is Jimmy Stevenson

Many places have featured over these 40 years
Perth has a lot to answer for, bringing laughter and sometimes tears
Waverley and Salutation hotels known for high teas and high jinks
Bell centre arena where the sporting part hopes often sunk

Relationships started with a longevity of 2 days
What seemed good at the time probably down to alcoholic haze
When the night ended and morning sobriety arrived
Some people just took a car and went for a drive

To recover our thoughts and hopefully our reputations
Sunday morning drove us to a more respectable destination
To the leafy banks of the Loch shore a game of footie went well
Afterwards, all retreated to the salvation of the Green hotel

Summer footie season allowed us games of eleven
Names featuring on the team sheets were football pundits heaven
The race to get the Golden boot took several twists and turns
Players from different regions all competing for EDFC’s urn

At the end of each season arrived the AGM celebration
Sloans bar the venue where trophies and other prizes given
Historical records kept, displaying official information
Some of it needing the official secrets act before being released to the nation

Thankfully the group is still together and a new generation has arrived
Some of those witnessing the 40 years still with us although a bit bleary eyed
A mixture of characters have adorned the EDFC strip
So on to anniversary 41, a new venue, lots of old faces, let’s continue to let it rip
